Automotive Polyester Body Filler
Another Unique Time Saving Product that Files and Sands with
Ease!
Ligntning represents the very latest technology and development
in filler formulation and is a very strong fin fleible high quality
automotive polyester filler that has been specifically formulated
for use by the Professional tradesman for fast amazingly easy panel
repairs and provides outstanding adhesion, low shrinkage, minimal
pin holes, with exceptional easy dust free sanding properties.
Lightning is designed to repair and fill all types of panels in
steel / fibreglass on cars, vans, trucks, buses, boats etc, and can
also be used to repair wood / timber surfaces, weatherboards,
interior or exterior wood should be then primer with Multiseal.
- Professionals choice
- Fast amazingly easy to use, cures in 3-5 minutes depending on
ambient temperature 'C
- Unique Properties - files and sands with ease, even twenty
minutes or two hours later.
- Anti sag properties, even thick films hold up on panels
- Exceptional increased adhesion to metal
- Minimal pin holing
- Low dust / healthy to use
- Sumer and Winter grades available
Operating Tips:
To achieve the best performance from automotive polyester
fillers and to assist with the use of Lightning we highly recommend
the follwoing:
- Insure a minimum of 2 % - 3% Benzoyl Peroxide! is always used,
amounts less will cause bleed through, as there will be
insufficient catalyst to thoroughly cure the polyester, this leaves
free amine to bleed out rough the paint.
- Thorough mixing to achieve complete colour change is essential
this improves adhesion / stops pin holing and also prevents bleed
through. Mix with a folding, scoop, flop and drag action and always
spread a loyer out on mixing board to press and extrude all the air
entrapped, then retrieve small quantities and use, apply to the
panel, build up in thin layers, extruding the air each time. Always
build higher than the repair to allow for sanding. Try to avoid
stirring action when mixing. A second or third coat may be
required.
- Do not use Winter grades in the summer, as its not possible to
include sufficient Benzoyl Peroide!
- Always immediately apply a waterproof Primer to the filler
after all repairs have been completed, even if the vehicle is to
stay inside the workshop, and especially if its stored, or is used
outside, as all fillers are extremely porous and any water or even
atmospheric moisture will penetrate the filler down to the metal
and immediately cause rusting that will result in failure with loss
of adhesion.
- Do not use Lightning or any other conventional filler directly
over rusty repairs always use a water-proof filler such as Autofix
first then use conventional filler to finish, as failure will arise
due to continued rusting causing loss of adhesion. To further
assist with rust prevention apply Autobodyseal Rustproofing
Underseal to the inside panels after the repairs have been
completed. This prevents moisture ingress and then will prevent
rusting.
- Always sand the surface all fillers before priming or painting.
Un-sanded filler will cause loss of adhesion and blistering due to
tacky surface, even small pin holes or spot repairs should be
sanded as these will also definitely fail.
- Insure the lid is kept securely colse on all fillers to prevent
evaporation of the styrene (solvent), as this will dry out filler
and moisture or water may enter. This will cause massive
pin-holing, along with future rusting.
For best results and improved adhesion it is important that ALL
paint, rust, etc, be completely removed. Sand back (or machine
grind) to a good clean bare metal surface, always larger than the
area to be filled, to allow for feathering.
Lightning requires addition of 2-3 % Hardener. Cut off nozzle
leaving 1/4" outlet, press out a 1' strip of hardener to half a cup
of filler. Sufficient hardener has been added when a strong even
red colour change is seen, it is important to thoroughly mix
hardener and filler together with a scoop, flop and drag asction
until colour completely changes evenly throughout. This mixing
action forces out entrapped air and helps eliminate pinholing,
never mix with stirring action. Always spread out on miing board to
remove air then use.
Apply to surface with suitable spreader, using reasonable
pressure, build up with thin layers (this eliminates pinholing),
and leave dents slightly over-filled to allow for smoothing down.
It is easier to remove ecess filler before a fully cured condition
is reached using a surform or dreadnought file, 40 grit sandpaper
can be used when fully cured, then use 100 grit paper for final
finish. Always coat repair with suitable primer, fillers should
never get wet as this results in metal rusting and then loss of
adhesion.
Store in a cool dark place. Keeps well sealed down. Do not use
mixing tool for taking additional Duraglass from tin.
Contains Styrene Monomer. Causes eye Irritation. Vapour
irritating combustible. Hardener contains Benzoyl Peroxide.
Avoid contact with eyes. Avoid breathing vapour. Avoid prolonged
or repeated contact with skin. Keep away from heat and open flame.
Use adequate ventilation. Keep container closed. Wash thoroughly
after handling.
In case of contact, immediatley flush eyes with plenty of water
for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician.
